Okay so today is Mardi Gras so that means tomorrow starts lent. This year I am giving up table salt*. Now I know there is sodium in almost everything but I will do my best anyway. I will not cook with or add table salt to my food and I will avoid things high in it to begin with.

* I intentionally say table salt because the world “salt” is a category not a specific thing.  For instance sand is also a salt.

“I’m Chuck Bass”… [Jan. 29th, 2009|03:18 pm]

A phrase that brings a warm fuzzy feeling to my heart. I have been playing "Gossip Girl" in the back ground while I work and may I say it is very relaxing. Whether I am writing, scrubbing, or making my next lesson plan the show helps put me in the zone. Why do you ask? I first put it on to see one of my friends who is on the show, did not know she does not show up till season two but I will get there eventually.  Its fun to be able to identify the locations of most of the scenes of the show, but ultimately “Gossip Girl” has the “Rent” effect on me. The first time I saw “Rent” ( a movie I thoroughly enjoyed) I was left with a great feeling of well being. I thought “wow, my life does not suck nearly as much as theirs does, life looks better.” “Gossip Girl” does that for me on a smaller scale.  Reflection can come from the strangest of sources especially with a plot like theirs. As I have been doing a lot of work from home lately I have had an abundance of time to think. What I think about is a topic for another post.

Bye for now, XO XO

This was one of “those” weekends where nothing went right. I had originally planed to go see Prince Caspian on Friday, Do some Eberron homework and then go to the Eberron ST meeting. Mom spent most of the weekend at work so we cancelled the movie.

All the rain came pouring in my closed kitchen window so I spent most of the weekend as a one man bucket and towel brigade. But then maybe it is a good thing I did not go out. The woman who ran the dry cleaners up the block from me was killed Friday morning and her car was stolen. Needles to say the whole neighborhood is on edge.

Its been a long time since I have posted anything of substance. As I have said before, I really do not like to write. Getting me motivated to sit down and do take a lot, more so in the past few months with me not having steady employment. Days can blur together even if something of substance happens I will find another medium. Today I need to write.

Letter... [Apr. 3rd, 2008|08:17 pm]
Dear demogorgon101,

I don't really know how to tell you this, but our romance is over. I think I realized it when I quoted Santa outside of Chicago and I saw you sit on my John F. Kennedy-statue. I'm sure you're scarred enough to understand that I did a sex-change. I'm returning the couch cushions to you, but I'll keep the results of your blood-sample as a memory. You should also know that I was interviewed by the Times about your our friendship.

Greetings to your freaky family,

Content Strike [Mar. 19th, 2008|05:55 pm]
[Tags|]

For those of you who don't already know, there has been a strike scheduled for Friday, March 21st, 2008, during which we hope to have many members of LiveJournal provide LJ with absolutely no content for twenty-four hours. This means no posting and no commenting. If you post elsewhere and have it set up to be posted through a feed on LiveJournal, don't do it. Stay away from LiveJournal for twenty-four hours. That can't be too hard, can it? I know some of you are probably quite active on LiveJournal and will find it hard to stay away for an entire day, just as I will, but this is something that needs to be done, to show the people running LiveJournal that we're watching the changes they are making, that we're paying attention, that we're discontent, and that we want to be heard and taken in to consideration. We are not simply users who can be tossed to the side and ignored. We are the people who make up LiveJournal. Without us, without the content we create, without our words, our voices, our creativity, our participation, there would be no LiveJournal. This is a fact, and it needs to be realized and understood and then taken in to consideration when making decisions regarding the way that LiveJournal is run. The strike is only a few days away, so there isn't all too much time to prepare. While this is unfortunate, it isn't enough to keep this strike from taking place. It will take place, the second it is meant to, and it would be best to have as many people take part as possible. Please, spread the word. Spread it fast. There are only a few days to organize this. If you find that you care about LiveJournal or care about the people you interact with on LiveJournal or simply want it to remain a place where you can entertain yourself without constant censorship and money-hungry practices being thrown in without the consideration of those who use the service, act now. If you don't wish to spread the word, that is fine, but please: refrain from using LiveJournal on Friday, March 21st. Do something else for a change. It's for a good cause. (:

For background on this strike and why it is being held, please read the following posts:
http://beckyzoole.livejournal.com/394838.html
http://beckyzoole.livejournal.com/395310.html

To find out exactly when the strike begins and ends, depending on where you are located, please see this:
http://beckyzoole.livejournal.com/395125.html

What's this about?

+ It's about free and ad-free LiveJournal accounts being abolished for new members, ignoring the advice from the newly-formed Advisory Board.
+ It's about LJ staff trying to sneak this decision in under the radar, and when people found out, telling the users it was done 'to make the signup process less confusing'.
+ It's about LJ staff failing to apologize for trying to hide the facts from view and for lying about the actual reasons for their actions.
+ And finally, it's about the latest decision to hide certain user interests from the list of Most Popular Interests, some of them being fanfiction, bisexuality, sex and depression. This decision was not announced or explained in any way. Users found out for themselves.

Your Score: Very Well-Rounded

You have:
70% SCIENTIFIC INTUITION and
62% EMOTIONAL INTUITION

The graph on the right represents your place in Intuition 2-Space. As you can see, you scored above average on emotional intuition and above average on scientific intuition. (Weirdly, your emotional and scientific intuitions are equally strong.)

Your Emotional Intuition score is a measure of how well you understand people, especially their unspoken needs and sympathies. A high score score usually indicates social grace and persuasiveness. A low score usually means you're good at Quake.

Your Scientific Intuition score tells you how in tune you are with the world around you; how well you understand your physical and intellectual environment. People with high scores here are apt to succeed in business and, of course, the sciences.

how do you eat cake? [Oct. 8th, 2007|02:33 pm]
[Current Mood | blank]
[Current Music |Green Day - Boulevard of Broken Dreams]

I am not big on icing, half the time the icing on a cake won’t be of a kind I like. So I will eat around the icing then throw it away. If I do like the icing I will eat the cake and the icing together, enjoying them both at the same time.

Not surprising I can draw a parallel with how I have dealt with problems in the past. I procrastinate and avoid many of my problems. I know I can overcome them; all I have to do is begin. I choose to begin and that choice is changing me. I do like cake but it is not always easy to eat.

This is first post of many to come where I will be sharing my choice to begin. To the few people who actually read my journal this is as much for you as it is for me.

I have started reading “the Road Less traveled.” The question “how do you eat cake?” is one of the first that is posed to the reader.

OH Wow part II [Sep. 28th, 2007|12:17 pm]

This September has been one of the craziest time periods in my life. Yesterday I ran into my friend Justin. We met in the Boy Scouts about 11 years ago, as both of us were black sheep in the group and geeks we hit it off right away.  Fast forward to 2003, it was time for us both to become Eagle Scouts (the highest level that one can go in Scouting) and he was not at the ceremony. I was told he was very ill and at death’s door, but I could not get hold of him or his family. At this point Justin fell of the grid and was gone. Then suddenly there he was back from the void and he is back to stay. OH Yeah!

I have been helping a friend get through a tough time in her life. Its been very rock for her and I am glad that I can be there for here. Then there are the continuing adventures with P. He has been someone I have looked up to, my mentor, my equal, a jerk, in other word a true friend. I prayed to God for a true friend. It was not what I expected, it is so much more.

In this month one friendship crashed and burned. Will something rise from the ashes? I do not know.

As of the 21st my tour with KB’s registrar ended. It was a lot of work but a good experience. In the past week I recuperated for the 13 hour days. I have not seriously thought about what will be my next job. Today I planed on applying for unemployment but instead Kingsborough wants me back. I start Monday as an inventory clerk. God is truly awesome!

I take note that it has been exactly one month since I last posted in my journal. In the short term I have a direction for my future but lately I feel that things are coming together in away that my whole life is focusing. What this will mean, I am not sure. But “with God at my back it will all work out in the end”

[Current Mood | tired]

Oh wow, the last few days have been intense. Last Wednesday I started a new job at Kingsborough Community College in the registrar office. I have been working 8 and 13 hour days and I am getting wiped. The job lasts until the end of September and then they will see if it becomes a permanent job. I have been told to take the cuny full time test so I take that as a good. Even if they ask me I have to think about if this is something I really want to do for an extended period of time.

Speaking of registration, I spoke to Brooklyn College and I will be going back in the summer/fall of next year. There is more I will say about this when/if I get some sleep.

My dnd campaign has gotten off to a good start. The former Dm of the group has a new baby and is moving. In the interim we have paused that game and I have started mine. The transition has gone well and I even brought in two more players. I am glad I got into this group. This is the only dungeons and dragons group I have ever known that meets consistently every week. We have been gamming together for more than a year with no end in sight. Combine that with the mind-blowing game that  [info]puk_the_lovable runs and I am a happy gamer. As I right this I remember that I still need to finish my Paladin’s back story. I need to get on that soon.

4E [Aug. 16th, 2007|09:51 pm]
Okay it is official. I got an email from a friend who works for wizards of the coast and it was confirmed on their website before it crashed (big surprise.) It was announced at Gen Con today that Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition will be arriving soon. I did not get a chance to read the whole article due to the site crashing but I got the sense that we won’t have to wait long. And I was running out of room for my 3.5 books *shakes Head*

EDIT: Wizard's website is back up. The 4E books will be out in spring/summer of 2008.

"The first live demos of 4th Edition will happen at the D&D Experience gaming convention in Washington D.C. in February 2008."

I take this to mean that they are renaming Winter Fantasy.

"Wizards of the Coast will release two 4th Edition preview books in December and January — Wizards Presents: Classes and Races and Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters."

This sounds like a very cheesy way of double charging gamers for books. But I will hold further comment until I see more.

Your Score: Jophiel

So you need Healing (31%), Knowledge (50%), Inspiration (10%), and Strength (43%)?

Archangel Jophiel is the Angel of endurance, freedom of thought, wisdom, truth, beauty, and illumination of the mind and spirit. He assists us in absorbing intricate information and in dealing with complex matters, and guides us along our aspired spiritual path to enlightenment.

Jophiel, inclined to help us see and maintain beauty in life, is the Patron Angel of artists and helps them in every step towards the completion of their work. Also, he loves those using inventions, discoveries, or revolutionary ideas for the greater good of humanity, and gives them special support, for as well-meant as the efforts of a pioneer often are, success will seldom come without doubt and humiliation.

Jophiel shares with us his wisdom and selfless patience that will strengthen us at times when we are close to resignation, and encourages those who are wishing to make a change that seems impossible to do to keep going. He teaches that everything can be made possible.

Striving and struggling souls, continuously searching for solutions and answers will find the strong and unshakable support they need in Jophiel, which goes for spiritual matters as well as earthly problems calling for solutions. He comforts those that were denigrated and abandoned, unwearyingly staying by their side to light their way and lead them out of hopelessness and despair. Jophiel is also concerned in beautifying the planet by cleansing it of pollution and lends his assistance to those engaging in the vital mission of helping our environment.

A Bit of Trivia:

Jophiel is one of the two Angels assisting Michael in battle, the other being Zadkiel. Just like Gabriel and Ariel, Jophiel is sometimes referred to as female.

18 hours to go [Jul. 24th, 2007|12:22 am]
[Current Location |Home]
[Current Mood | anxious]

After weeks of frantic searching, as of Sunday night we have the proofs of id needed to get on the plane. In that time I have been cleaning house both literally and figuratively. My apartment is the most organized it has been since I moved in some fourteen years ago. Soon it will actually be the way we wan it to be.

As I was going through boxes and bags my mind wandered to the happenings that related to the contents of the containers. It has helped me reflect on my past.

There is so much I want to say right now but it will have to wait till I get back.

Okay so I smell like Yeast… and some times peppermint. [Jul. 17th, 2007|12:07 am]
I am not sure if I wrote about this before but I caught a bad fungal-rash a while ago. I thought it was under control and I was spraying myself with the stuff my doctor gave me. This weekend I had a flare up and it is killing me. I am always hot, my skin itches and burns, and my skin is raw half the time from the scratching. Now I have a cream that I have to put on twice a day. I hate creams, ointments, lotions and any type of body oil. They are gloppy. They are squishy! They get all over the place and even when you try to wash them off it is impossible to remove it all. Then I think about people who go to spas and pay to have this kind of stuff massaged into them. *shudders* I am not sure which is worse the symptoms or the treatment?

In other news my Kingsborough employment is officially over. There are no appeals, no union help, and no possibility for reassignment. Not that I am surprised but I am just making it known. Unemployment should be kicking in soon so things won’t be that bad. Now that I don’t have a job I have been catching up on things that I have been putting off for a long time. So I am busier now than when I had a job. At the end of the month my mom is going on a professional conference to Atlanta, Georgia. I am looking forward to two weeks just hanging out. Then I come back and start looking for a new job.

I stand on the verge of limitless possibilities; my I take the road less traveled.

unemployment [Jun. 29th, 2007|03:38 pm]
As of today I am unemployed. Like half of my department, I was not reappointed for the next physical year because of political BS. Adding to the BS is how I found out that I no longer had a job.

Last Tuesday the Senior Technologies Officer, Mr. Hussein, held a meeting of my department. At the meeting he discussed that there would be some changes going on in the department: policies will be revised, 30,000 dollar were given back to the city because they were not used, more people will be hired, more hours will be given to those who already work here, and that they were looking to promote people were there years of service will be looked on favorably.

I want to point out a few things. First this was the first time Mr. Hussein was formally introduced to most of us. Second, this meeting was 18 month over due because that is how long Mr. Hussein has worked at his current job. Third shortly after our Senior Technologies Officer took power half of our department was asked to leave. Finally, we have been working very short handed ever since and we asked for more people we were told that there was no money in the budget. Needles to say we left the meeting feeling very uneasy.

Now, last Thursday the topic of the reappointment letters came up and the fact that half of us did not get one. So I went to Human Resources and inquired on the status of my letter and I was told that they could not give out the information. I was directed to the Senior Technologies Officer Mr. Hussein (yes what you are probably thinking about him is true.) Mr. Hussein told me he could not help me and I should speak with the head of HR, Mickey. She just happened to be on vacation at the time. I was the last of the group to travel this run around but when I got to HR the second time I spoke to Mickey’s secretary who was calling her at home. Neither of them was happy. I was told that Mickey was getting to the bottom of it and would let us know on Tuesday. At the Same time I made an appointment to see my personnel file. I found nothing bad in it. On the contrary, I was given all positive review and even recommended for a promotion.

On the 26th I was told by Mickey that I would not be reappointed, they did not need to give me notice, and that they did not need to tell me why. Now of course the others and I have filed protests and contacted the Union. Now comes the most laughable and biggest BS part of the whole thing. I got a call back from the union with a status report and the official reason for our termination: Some employees were let go so that new employees could be hired with more skills and computer knowledge.

All I will say in response to that without going on anther full page rant and cursing in four different languages (yes I can do that) is that the reasoning is untrue. We are as qualified if not more so to do the jobs that we were hired for.
