A phrase that brings a warm fuzzy feeling to my heart. I have been playing "Gossip Girl" in the back ground while I work and may I say it is very relaxing. Whether I am writing, scrubbing, or making my next lesson plan the show helps put me in the zone. Why do you ask? I first put it on to see one of my friends who is on the show, did not know she does not show up till season two but I will get there eventually. Its fun to be able to identify the locations of most of the scenes of the show, but ultimately “Gossip Girl” has the “Rent” effect on me. The first time I saw “Rent” ( a movie I thoroughly enjoyed) I was left with a great feeling of well being. I thought “wow, my life does not suck nearly as much as theirs does, life looks better.” “Gossip Girl” does that for me on a smaller scale. Reflection can come from the strangest of sources especially with a plot like theirs. As I have been doing a lot of work from home lately I have had an abundance of time to think. What I think about is a topic for another post.

Bye for now, XO XO

This was one of “those” weekends where nothing went right. I had originally planed to go see Prince Caspian on Friday, Do some Eberron homework and then go to the <st1:street><st1:address>Eberron ST</st1:address></st1:street> meeting. Mom spent most of the weekend at work so we cancelled the movie.

All the rain came pouring in my closed kitchen window so I spent most of the weekend as a one man bucket and towel brigade. But then maybe it is a good thing I did not go out. The woman who ran the dry cleaners up the block from me was killed Friday morning and her car was stolen. Needles to say the whole neighborhood is on edge.

Its been a long time since I have posted anything of substance. As I have said before, I really do not like to write. Getting me motivated to sit down and do take a lot, more so in the past few months with me not having steady employment. Days can blur together even if something of substance happens I will find another medium. Today I need to write.

My best friend Anthony came over and we talked about a lot of deep stuff (but I will get to that later.) The fact that he was in my house is a big thing for me. For reasons I wont go into now I did not associate with other people when I was younger but mostly this did not bother me. Anthony was the first person I developed a connection with. In the 6 years I have known him I have been to his house many times but he only started coming to my house this year. Besides my hose not always been the cleanest, have been afraid to let people in that close. I genuinely try to accept people no matter who or what they are but I have struggled with the idea that if other see me for me I will be viewed as twisted, perverse or tainted in some way. Besides Anthony I have only had one other person over my house. In both cases it would only happen when I knew days in advance and I would prep that apartment so that thing where arranged to the best of my abilities the way I wanted them to be. Today I did not do this. I went along my normal routine, that was it. The world did not end. Now I know that my not seem like a big deal it is to me.

I have only three other people to my house. Two were an experiment that crashed and burned but I am okay with that because that was a variable in the experiment (um ..yeah. that is another issue in its own right.) I did arrange the hose for them. The third came in just to use the bathroom at night. There is potential for more with him but it has not happened yet. I only invited one other person and she never took up the offer. She does not fully know that it means something to me.

When Anthony was over, one of the things we talked about was a “Return of the Warriors” by Theun Mabes. It is the first book in the Toltec Teachings series. This is a deep book. Anthony has helped be explore my beliefs; challenging them at times, exposing wholes, and giving me new perspectives on the world. This book is the next step and it presents…interesting ideas. I know I will get a lot out of it regardless of how much of it I embrace.

After we ate we went to see Iron Man with some one new, Cat (not sure if she spells it with a C or K). the movie was great but what happened after was just a good. The three of us went walking along Prospect Park and talked the whole way. This was the first time I had a conversation with Cat which went deeper that I expected. Our topics crossed geekdom, religion, life, death, and the personal. Anthony spoke when he had something to say but he gave Cat and I a chance to really talk about. I felt comfortable around her and she showed me something that took me off guard. Cat show me a breathing meathead but needed to touch my back to do so. This brings me to the topic of personal space.

It is a funny thing for me. I am the kind of person who would cuddle up next to you and ignore personal space regardless of the person’s gender (I mean this in a non sexual way.) In a long car ride I would lean on you and expect you to do the same. Having said all that I also know that other people do not view personal space the same way. So I repress my natural tendencies and give people a wide birth. I greatly respect people’s feelings. I do not want to alienate them. And I fear doing something wrong and being rejected. Because of this I do not have physical contact with people besides handshakes and the occasional hug. So when it does happen I do not know what to do. Cat showed me to breathe to a point at my lower back that I had never done before. Not only did it straiten out my posture but it put me in a wonderful place for singing. It made me excited that I might have a decent singing voice again though it will be a lot of work. Even a few hours later I know the point is there but I will need help finding it again. Thankfully with practice muscle memory kicks in.

If you have read to this point leave me a comment and let me know what you think. As a random side not there is an LG event for reading books in a year ( I forget the specifics) but I have read 12 so far. I was wondering if I read the 4E PHB, DMG, & MM cover to cover in short secession do they count? And yes you can read the Monster Manual cover to cover, I have done it.

For those of you who don't already know, there has been a strike scheduled for Friday, March 21st, 2008, during which we hope to have many members of LiveJournal provide LJ with absolutely no content for twenty-four hours. This means no posting and no commenting. If you post elsewhere and have it set up to be posted through a feed on LiveJournal, don't do it. Stay away from LiveJournal for twenty-four hours. That can't be too hard, can it? I know some of you are probably quite active on LiveJournal and will find it hard to stay away for an entire day, just as I will, but this is something that needs to be done, to show the people running LiveJournal that we're watching the changes they are making, that we're paying attention, that we're discontent, and that we want to be heard and taken in to consideration. We are not simply users who can be tossed to the side and ignored. We are the people who make up LiveJournal. Without us, without the content we create, without our words, our voices, our creativity, our participation, there would be no LiveJournal. This is a fact, and it needs to be realized and understood and then taken in to consideration when making decisions regarding the way that LiveJournal is run. The strike is only a few days away, so there isn't all too much time to prepare. While this is unfortunate, it isn't enough to keep this strike from taking place. It will take place, the second it is meant to, and it would be best to have as many people take part as possible. Please, spread the word. Spread it fast. There are only a few days to organize this. If you find that you care about LiveJournal or care about the people you interact with on LiveJournal or simply want it to remain a place where you can entertain yourself without constant censorship and money-hungry practices being thrown in without the consideration of those who use the service, act now. If you don't wish to spread the word, that is fine, but please: refrain from using LiveJournal on Friday, March 21st. Do something else for a change. It's for a good cause. (:

For background on this strike and why it is being held, please read the following posts:
http://beckyzoole.livejournal.com/394838.html
http://beckyzoole.livejournal.com/395310.html

To find out exactly when the strike begins and ends, depending on where you are located, please see this:
http://beckyzoole.livejournal.com/395125.html

What's this about?

+ It's about free and ad-free LiveJournal accounts being abolished for new members, ignoring the advice from the newly-formed Advisory Board.
+ It's about LJ staff trying to sneak this decision in under the radar, and when people found out, telling the users it was done 'to make the signup process less confusing'.
+ It's about LJ staff failing to apologize for trying to hide the facts from view and for lying about the actual reasons for their actions.
+ And finally, it's about the latest decision to hide certain user interests from the list of Most Popular Interests, some of them being fanfiction, bisexuality, sex and depression. This decision was not announced or explained in any way. Users found out for themselves.

Reposted from </a></b></a>fairytalevegas who reposted from </a></b></a>m03m.

AND ICONS TO SUPPORT THIS:

I am not big on icing, half the time the icing on a cake won’t be of a kind I like. So I will eat around the icing then throw it away. If I do like the icing I will eat the cake and the icing together, enjoying them both at the same time.

Not surprising I can draw a parallel with how I have dealt with problems in the past. I procrastinate and avoid many of my problems. I know I can overcome them; all I have to do is begin. I choose to begin and that choice is changing me. I do like cake but it is not always easy to eat.

This is first post of many to come where I will be sharing my choice to begin. To the few people who actually read my journal this is as much for you as it is for me.

I have started reading “the Road Less traveled.” The question “how do you eat cake?” is one of the first that is posed to the reader.

This September has been one of the craziest time periods in my life. Yesterday I ran into my friend Justin. We met in the Boy Scouts about 11 years ago, as both of us were black sheep in the group and geeks we hit it off right away. Fast forward to 2003, it was time for us both to become Eagle Scouts (the highest level that one can go in Scouting) and he was not at the ceremony. I was told he was very ill and at death’s door, but I could not get hold of him or his family. At this point Justin fell of the grid and was gone. Then suddenly there he was back from the void and he is back to stay. OH Yeah!

I have been helping a friend get through a tough time in her life. Its been very rock for her and I am glad that I can be there for here. Then there are the continuing adventures with P. He has been someone I have looked up to, my mentor, my equal, a jerk, in other word a true friend. I prayed to God for a true friend. It was not what I expected, it is so much more.

In this month one friendship crashed and burned. Will something rise from the ashes? I do not know.

As of the 21st my tour with KB’s registrar ended. It was a lot of work but a good experience. In the past week I recuperated for the 13 hour days. I have not seriously thought about what will be my next job. Today I planed on applying for unemployment but instead Kingsborough wants me back. I start Monday as an inventory clerk. God is truly awesome!

I take note that it has been exactly one month since I last posted in my journal. In the short term I have a direction for my future but lately I feel that things are coming together in away that my whole life is focusing. What this will mean, I am not sure. But “with God at my back it will all work out in the end”

Okay it is official. I got an email from a friend who works for wizards of the coast and it was confirmed on their website before it crashed (big surprise.) It was announced at Gen Con today that Dungeons and Dragons 4th edition will be arriving soon. I did not get a chance to read the whole article due to the site crashing but I got the sense that we won’t have to wait long. And I was running out of room for my 3.5 books *shakes Head*

EDIT: Wizard's website is back up. The 4E books will be out in spring/summer of 2008.

"The first live demos of 4th Edition will happen at the D&D Experience gaming convention in Washington D.C. in February 2008."

I take this to mean that they are renaming Winter Fantasy.

"Wizards of the Coast will release two 4th Edition preview books in December and January — Wizards Presents: Classes and Races and Wizards Presents: Worlds and Monsters."

This sounds like a very cheesy way of double charging gamers for books. But I will hold further comment until I see more.

Also, he loves those using inventions, discoveries, or revolutionary ideas for the greater good of humanity, and gives them special support, for as well-meant as the efforts of a pioneer often are, success will seldom come without doubt and humiliation.

Jophiel shares with us his wisdom and selfless patience that will strengthen us at times when we are close to resignation, and encourages those who are wishing to make a change that seems impossible to do to keep going. He teaches that everything can be made possible.

Striving and struggling souls, continuously searching for solutions and answers will find the strong and unshakable support they need in Jophiel, which goes for spiritual matters as well as earthly problems calling for solutions. He comforts those that were denigrated and abandoned, unwearyingly staying by their side to light their way and lead them out of hopelessness and despair. Jophiel is also concerned in beautifying the planet by cleansing it of pollution and lends his assistance to those engaging in the vital mission of helping our environment.

A Bit of Trivia:

Jophiel is one of the two Angels assisting Michael in battle, the other being Zadkiel.
After weeks of frantic searching, as of Sunday night we have the proofs of id needed to get on the plane. In that time I have been cleaning house both literally and figuratively. My apartment is the most organized it has been since I moved in some fourteen years ago. Soon it will actually be the way we wan it to be.

As I was going through boxes and bags my mind wandered to the happenings that related to the contents of the containers. It has helped me reflect on my past.

There is so much I want to say right now but it will have to wait till I get back.

TTFN

I am not sure if I wrote about this before but I caught a bad fungal-rash a while ago. I thought it was under control and I was spraying myself with the stuff my doctor gave me. This weekend I had a flare up and it is killing me. I am always hot, my skin itches and burns, and my skin is raw half the time from the scratching. Now I have a cream that I have to put on twice a day. I hate creams, ointments, lotions and any type of body oil. They are gloppy. They are squishy! They get all over the place and even when you try to wash them off it is impossible to remove it all. Then I think about people who go to spas and pay to have this kind of stuff massaged into them. *shudders* I am not sure which is worse the symptoms or the treatment?

In other news my Kingsborough employment is officially over. There are no appeals, no union help, and no possibility for reassignment. Not that I am surprised but I am just making it known. Unemployment should be kicking in soon so things won’t be that bad. Now that I don’t have a job I have been catching up on things that I have been putting off for a long time. So I am busier now than when I had a job. At the end of the month my mom is going on a professional conference to Atlanta, Georgia. I am looking forward to two weeks just hanging out. Then I come back and start looking for a new job.

I stand on the verge of limitless possibilities; my I take the road less traveled.
Ad Majorem Dei Gloriam

unemployment

As of today I am unemployed. Like half of my department, I was not reappointed for the next physical year because of political BS. Adding to the BS is how I found out that I no longer had a job.

Last Tuesday the Senior Technologies Officer, Mr. Hussein, held a meeting of my department. At the meeting he discussed that there would be some changes going on in the department: policies will be revised, 30,000 dollar were given back to the city because they were not used, more people will be hired, more hours will be given to those who already work here, and that they were looking to promote people were there years of service will be looked on favorably.

I want to point out a few things. First this was the first time Mr. Hussein was formally introduced to most of us. Second, this meeting was 18 month over due because that is how long Mr. Hussein has worked at his current job. Third shortly after our Senior Technologies Officer took power half of our department was asked to leave. Finally, we have been working very short handed ever since and we asked for more people we were told that there was no money in the budget. Needles to say we left the meeting feeling very uneasy.

Now, last Thursday the topic of the reappointment letters came up and the fact that half of us did not get one. So I went to Human Resources and inquired on the status of my letter and I was told that they could not give out the information. I was directed to the Senior Technologies Officer Mr. Hussein (yes what you are probably thinking about him is true.) Mr. Hussein told me he could not help me and I should speak with the head of HR, Mickey. She just happened to be on vacation at the time. I was the last of the group to travel this run around but when I got to HR the second time I spoke to Mickey’s secretary who was calling her at home. Neither of them was happy. I was told that Mickey was getting to the bottom of it and would let us know on Tuesday. At the Same time I made an appointment to see my personnel file. I found nothing bad in it. On the contrary, I was given all positive review and even recommended for a promotion.

On the 26th I was told by Mickey that I would not be reappointed, they did not need to give me notice, and that they did not need to tell me why. Now of course the others and I have filed protests and contacted the Union. Now comes the most laughable and biggest BS part of the whole thing. I got a call back from the union with a status report and the official reason for our termination: Some employees were let go so that new employees could be hired with more skills and computer knowledge.

All I will say in response to that without going on anther full page rant and cursing in four different languages (yes I can do that) is that the reasoning is untrue. We are as qualified if not more so to do the jobs that we were hired for.
